I skipped school yesterday to go visit colleges with my dad. There are three colleges that I have in mind, all in the same area. They’re about three hours away and because my dad recently had surgery on his elbow, I had to drive the whole way.
We woke up extra early and were on the road by 6am. We visited one college at 9:30 and another at two. By five we were checking into a hotel a couple of minutes away from college number three. Our third visit was at 9:30 the next morning so we decided to stay the night, rather than driving the six hour trip home and back.
Personally, I love hotels. When my dad left at seven to go find a bar to shoot some billiards, I was thrilled because I mostly love hotels when I’m in them alone. I think I love them because they make me feel like an adult. Like I’m on a business trip or something. I don’t know.
I climbed into my pajamas and got comfortable on the bed with my book. After reading for several hours, my stomach started growling. I put the room key and four quarters in my pocket and walked out the door. Fully aware that I was bare foot and, because I wasn’t wearing a bra, my boobs were bouncing all over the place in my brightly striped rainbow pajamas, I strutted down the hall.
It took me a while to find the vending machines, and when I did, I was disappointed. The only thing I saw that I liked was Lays original potato chips. I was also disappointed because it was like a sauna in there. Something, I think it was the ice machine, in that room was giving off major heat. I was sweating just putting the quarters in the slot.
I laid on the bed reading until about midnight. That’s when my dad walked in and announced he was going to bed. I wasn’t done reading, but I couldn’t read in the dark. I ended up taking a pillow into the bathroom and reading in there until two or three.
The next day I woke up to see it was snowing. Normally, this would make me happy. But I hadn’t worn a coat with a hood. And I knew that this tour was going to involve a lot of walking. I knew it was going to be aggravating before I even went outside.
I was right. It was aggravating. My face was wet and cold, my shoes were soaked through to my toes and tag in the back of my coat was itching my neck the entire time. I realized I was probably being a bitch, but at the time I couldn’t care less. I just wanted to go to the car and put on dry socks.
Since visiting all three schools, I still have no idea which one I want to go to. They were all very similar.
xoxo,
Melanie
